*About
Overlander
(nee Windstrokes):
William Barton (didjeridu), Claire
Edwardes (percussion), Mel Robinson (cello/vocals) &
Iain Grandage (cello) first
collaborated on a tour of
the Kimberleys in May 2007 - this
tour was made possible by TURA New Music and was an amazing experience. We performed new works by William and Iain as well as arrangements
of Mel's tunes, Sculthorpe, Edwards and some Pigram brothers tunes. We travelled
to Broome, the Dampier Peninsula & Kunnunurra (WA) giving workshops and concerts.
In 2008 we performed a concert in the Utzon Room series at the Sydney Opera
House which included a world premiere by me called, Red Earth and in 2010 we
will feature at the Castlemaine Festival.

WHY I LIKE
COLLABORATING
Claire is
committed to furthering the acceptance of solo percussion as a serious,
captivating and exciting new medium. She has performed all over North America,
Europe and Australia, combining the "classics" with less well known
nevertheless, extremely
musically effective compositions. As well as performing solo
recitals and concertos, Claire has several collaborations with other active
chamber musicians based in the U.K., the
Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Australia. These include Gaudeamus 3rd
prize winners, percussion duo, Duo Vertigo with Niels Meliefste, a violin and
percussion duo with Sarah Oates (Antipoduo) and regular collaborations with
a range of respected, talented and inspiring musicians
from around the world. These initiatives are an extension of
her commitment to and deep interest in quality new contemporary music. She is
constantly searching out new compositions, which haven't yet been widely heard
and commissioning pieces by composers worldwide. Personal and musical challenge, inspiration and passion are
often the result of these unique collaborations.
