Beginnings to New Ends - EO

  • Sydney Opera House Utzon Room Sydney, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

Generations converge in Beginnings to New Ends as champions of fearless music (Ensemble Offspring) pit Artistic Director and leading percussionist, Claire Edwardes, against the next up-and-coming instrumental talent. Edwardes performs a set of colourful percussion solos, all written in collaboration with her, by emerging female composers. Featuring gongs, drums, metals and even recited text, these original works are beguiling and sonically stimulating.  Alongside Claire will be Ensemble Offspring’s first-ever Associate Artist, clarinettist Georgina Oakes. She returns from 10 years in Europe to wow us with her new music pedigree - having worked with the likes of Pierre Boulez and Tristan Murail. You’ll want front row seats for this experience of future-making in progress.

Dobrinka Tabakova - Frozen River Flows 6’30
Elizabeth Younan - Electors of Middlemarch 8’00 (drum set up & voice)
Pierre Boulez - clarinet solo 7 or 14'
Matthew Hindson - Accelerating Hi-hat 5’ OR Ella Macens - Colour Burst 6’
Martin Wesley Smith - White Knight 9’30 (tape, clarinet, marimba)
